Les Neish is one of the most brilliant tubists of his generation. He is a world-famous soloist, chamber musician and teacher.
His career highlights include a performance at Millennium Park in Chicago and performing on an album by Sting. In addition, he is tuba professor at the renowned Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, where he graduated with First Class Honours, a Professional Performance Diploma and a Postgraduate Diploma with distinction.
Always trying to push his limits, Les Neish is the first tubist to have won the Worshipful Company of Dyers Award for Wind and Brass the Royal Overseas League competition. He was also the first solo tubist to perform at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. His first solo album “Salt of the Earth” was broadcast by Radio 3 and has won several prizes for best solo album of the year. For his second album “Shine” he was awarded the prestigious Roger Bobo Award by the International Tuba Euphonium Association. In addition to his solo performances, Les Neish also plays with the world-famous American Brass Band of battle Creek and as a chamber musician with the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble. Fine Arts Brass Ensemble has toured 60 countries in 30 years.
Les Neish is passionate about teaching workshops for teenagers in Europe, the USA and Australia. The tubist is a key figure at the Scottish Brass Band Association Youth Development Programme that has organised workshops for thousands of teenagers. It has majorly contributed to the fact that the number of youth orchestras in Scotland has increased considerably. Les Neish is a professor at Junior RNCM where he teaches talented tubists and conducts JRNCM Brass Band. Last but not least, he is a regular guest on judging panels at solo brass and wind music competitions all around the world.
